I’ve got a ‘smart’ car, which to be honest is a little too smart. My car is due for its yearly service in 17 days and how do I know that? Because every time I turn my car on it pops up on the screen and tells me! I’m the type of person that likes to leave things to the last minute, or worse still, push the boundaries to see how long I can leave stuff for. I’ve never been one for responsibility, and to have my car remind me multiple times a day that I have to go get a car service in the Prahran area really grinds my gears. Pun intended.
I just don’t want to be confronted by the fact that I’m ignoring my responsibilities. I’ve considered starting to walk places instead of drive because I’m sick of that little notification popping up every day. I wish there was some way to turn it off but my car is too smart for me to do that. It’s like it wants the car service more than it wants to drive places.
Take me back to the good old days when humans used to drive cars and cars didn’t drive us. Like really, I just push a button and a couple of pedals and steer. That’s not driving. I have no doubt my car could take me on a joyride if it decided it wanted to, which to be honest I wouldn’t be mad about, but I am mad that it has made me confront my responsibilities every day for the last month. I don’t even want to know what it’s going to say when I go past the 17 day mark and haven’t visited the nearest mechanic close to Prahran.
My car will probably just self combust out of spite. I’m sure it has the ability to, somewhere in its big computer brain. Maybe I’ll go to the mechanic just so I can tell him to shut off all the ‘smart’ features.
